What can I say but thank you!
It was great to see a full house at The Black Lantern again last night for the quiz and first off I have to thank everyone who donated a prize last night to the raffle - cheers guys, it really helps sell the raffle tickets when there are so many prizes on display. We had 6 bottles of wine, a bottle of Mojito, a marvellous chocolate cake (I wanted that), a meal for two and a Swedish Gnome! The raffle lasted almost as long as the quiz.
Also we managed to break the €10,000 barrier last night, which when I tried to announce this fact I think I must have got some dust in my eyes as I could not stop them watering. It really is a life changing amount of money and it has all been raised by you guys. I cannot thank each and every one of you enough for your support and encouragement over the last 53 quizzes we have run since October 2012 to raise such a fantastic amount.
Special thanks has to go to Graham who always donates wine and a meal for two to the raffle and also gives a lot to the charity which often goes unseen, CHEERS MATE.
It was a close run quiz with a tie-break for first place. The question to seal the win for Team Anonimouse over Bonnie & Clyde/NorfnSouf was "What was the final score in the Wales - Ireland Rugby Union Match held today?"
Unfortunately it seems that no one on the Bonnie Team watches much Welsh rugby, I have to say that in my eyes they should have had a point deducted for that reason alone 8-), but Team Anonimouse knew the correct score and gained the all important 10 league points.
Third place went to a strong runout by the 'Sprung Chickens' even if they clucked a bit about the last round being too hard! 4th was 'the Wallabies' who had a decent first two rounds and then lost the plot a bit, a disappointing 5th place and a shock for this Quiz-Master were 'The Four Seasons'. Obviously the Welsh win in Cardiff played a blow to the clear thinking there.
6th, 7th, 8th and 9th went to the 'Ian Yates Fan Club', 'The Darmar Devils', The 'Church Wayfarers' and 'The Challengers' respectively, who were all on very similar scores and perhaps if they had known it was I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers then they could have jumped a slot or two on the league table.
And fighting for last place were 'The Fluffy Ducks' and 'Team Slurro' with the Porcelain Pirate going to the only non-English speaking team at the quiz 'Team Slurro'
Thank you everyone also for the wonderful donations to the charity walk I and six other crazy people will be doing on the 22 April. As well as raising €220 for HELP for HEROES last night from the quiz, you also donated €260 to the cancer charities we will be walking the 60km from Paleochora to Tavronitis for.
THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU
Now for the apologies - Sorry to everyone for the tough questions in the last two rounds but I am sure I have been far too easy on you over the past quizzes and I think it is good to have a little brain matter stretched no and again. Of course some teams have more stretching to do than others...
On to the scores on the doors-
